about psychotherapy

Psychotherapy happens on many levels—emotional, behavioral, cognitive, archetypal, spiritual and transpersonal. I like to think of psychotherapy as a journey towards greater health on one or all of those levels. The journey is unique for each person depending on when and where they begin, and who they choose as a companion. As a companion, my task as the psychotherapist is to serve your process as is needed and appropriate. I create a safe space for your journey, am a witness, and a teacher of life skills (i.e. communication, development of healthy cognitive and behavioral patterns, as well as tools for anxiety reduction, goal setting and achievement).  In our work together we will discover and manifest creative ways to approach life’s challenges, and assist you in the process of dealing with trauma and loss.

Some of the issues I address with clients include anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, transitional life events, and prenatal and postpartum challenges.  Together, clients and I discuss which issues are most pressing and during the first few session we can usually determine whether brief psychotherapy will be adequate or if we’ll need to plan for more intensive and ongoing sessions.  Psychotherapy often requires us to dig deep and get in touch with feelings and thought patterns that make us feel uncomfortable.  I generally find, however, that as clients share their experiences and feelings they ultimately find that they are extremely relieved to finally be addressing issues that may have been a source of pain and confusion for years.

I offer an initial fifty-minute consultation free of charge during which time we can get to know one another, discuss your reasons for considering psychotherapy and decide if we will work well together. Further appointments are seventy-five dollars for fifty minutes.

I do offer a sliding scale for individuals who qualify.
